Moving and Storage Insurance Questions
What Happens If Something Breaks?
Gigantic Moving & Storage makes a commitment to accomplishing moves without damages. But as all of us know, accidents happen and if an item gets damaged it’s important to understand the types of coverage available to you.
Understanding Your Insurance Options
For your local move, whether in Seattle or Austin, Gigantic Moving & Storage offers 3 options for your insurance coverage. You will have the option to choose your desired coverage when your crew arrives. The coverage and rates are determined by the Washington Department of Transportation, so we apologize if neither of the selections fit your exact insurance needs. A fourth option is included as well for your convenience.
1. Released Value Protection
The standard insurance option released value protection provides for compensation of $.60 per pound per article. For example, if there is a 100 lb. dresser that is damaged, you will receive the lesser of either $60 or the cost to repair the damage.
Released value protection is free with any Gigantic Moving & Storage move.
2. Replacement Cost Protection (w/ $300 Deductible)
The full insurance option replacement cost protection provides for the most comprehensive compensation available, or in other words “you break it, you fix it.” It values your goods at $5.00 per lb. using the same example of the 100 lb. dresser; you will receive the lesser of either $500 or the repair/replacement cost. This option provides the coverage with a $300 deductible (you pay the 1st $300).
The cost of Replacement Cost Protection (w/ Deductible) is $1.00 per $100 of declared value.
3. Replacement Cost Protection
The full insurance option replacement cost protection provides for the most comprehensive compensation available, or in other words “you break it, you fix it.” It values your goods at $5.00 per lb. using the same example of the 100 lb. dresser, you will receive the lesser of either $500 or the replacement/repair cost.
The cost of Replacement Cost Protection is $1.25 for every $100 of declared value.
You are able to declare a higher value if you would like. To do so, simply make a list of the items we are moving and their values and submit it via email to firstname.lastname@example.org at least 72 hours prior to your moving date.
|Released Value Protection||FREE||$.60 per lb|
|Replacement Cost w/ Deductible($300 Deductible)||$1.00 per every $100 of declared value*||$5.00 per lb minus $300|
|Replacement Cost Protection||$1.25 per every $100 of declared value*||$5.00 per lb|
*Any declared value must be equal to or greater than $5.00/lb.
4. Homeowner’s Insurance
Unbeknownst to many, your homeowner’s or renters insurance will often cover your goods during your move. Whether or not your insurance provides this to you, such coverage must be verified prior to your move and your insurance company notified as well. Again, please be sure to make those arrangements prior to your move date as coverage may not be available at that time.
