Moving FAQ

FAQ of packing and moving with GIGANTIC Moving and Storage

Q: How do you price a local move?
A: All local moves are based on an hourly rate. Week days are not as expensive and more readily available than weekends. If packing is going to be required, the materials used are billed at a separate but reasonable rate.

Q: Is it possible to reduce the cost of my move?
A: Yes, Since all moves are based on an hourly rate you can save money by having everything packed and ready for us when we get there and begin moving. Clearly marking each box with the appropriate room can help reduce time on delivery.

Q: Do you have insurance?
A: Yes. We have a certificate of general liability for up to $2 Million. We have a selection of insurance options for your goods please check with our office for more details.

Q: Can I change dates or cancel?
A: We do not take deposits to reserve a move so the ball is in your court but we only ask that you keep us updated and let us know of any changes as soon as possible. Yes, you are able to cancel your move without losing a penny. You can change the date of your move (subject to availability).

Q: Should I tip the movers?
A: That’s up to you. Suggested gratuity is 15%–20% for the whole crew (not each individual mover). The foreman will distribute the gratuity.

Q: What if I need storage?
A: We offer free storage for up to 1 week and every month thereafter is 20 cents per cu ft. i.e. 550 – 700 sq ft (440 – 560 cubic ft) $100 – $130 per month.

Q: Can I leave my clothes a dresser or chest of drawers?
A: Lightweight clothing – sweaters, shirts, blouses, and lingerie – may be left inside the drawers. Do not fill the drawers with any heavy items such as books, table sheets or linens, which can damage the piece of furniture during transit. Please know that by leaving any items in the drawers you run the risk of stressing the joints of the furniture.

Q: Are my hardwood floors and carpet protected?
A: We will place runners down in each entry way of your home. We also protect each entry door jam with pads. If additional protection is required please let us know in advance so we can bring the appropriate equipment.

Q: How much advance notice do you need to schedule my move?
A: We typically need a week or two advance notice but can make just about any last minute moves possible. If you need a specific day and time then better to make advance arrangements.

Q: How long does it take to move?
A: Unfortunately we cannot tell you exactly how long it will take but know that our crews are skilled and work as fast as possible while keeping safety in mind. Some things can end up adding additional time. (Elevator, Stairs, Long walk ways)
